A nationwide series of 38 forestry clinics for people who are considering planting forestry on the farm has been organised by Teagasc’s Forestry Development Department. These Clinics are being held between Monday, January 28 and Friday, February 8.
The clinic in Tullamore will take place on January 31 in the Teagasc Office. Contact 057 9321405 for more details.
Dr. Nuala Ni Fhlatharta, head of Teagasc’s Forestry Development Department said, “The first step in making an informed decision on forestry as an enterprise is to become familiar with the issues involved. Planting land can have many attractions, but you need to know if it is appropriate for you. Teagasc can provide the information, experience and advice necessary to assist in the decision making process.”
She added, “Similar clinics held in 2012 were very well attended, with a range of issues being explored, such as land suitability, environmental compatibility, interaction of forestry with other farm schemes, and potential returns on investment.”
Farmers and landowners considering the merits of a forestry enterprise are invited to attend these free clinics in local Teagasc offices throughout the country. They will provide a great opportunity to avail of a one-to-one consultation with an experienced Teagasc forestry adviser.
Financial returns from forestry are central to decision making for many landowners. During a consultation, Teagasc forestry advisers can provide financial advice on afforestation and management scenarios using a forestry investment programme. The information provided can help to guide decisions about forestry as a viable enterprise and future forest management options.
Clinics will take place in local Teagasc offices between 10.00am and 4.00pm. Prior booking is essential.
This is an ideal opportunity to get answers to your forestry questions – don’t miss it!
