Forestry has received a boost in recent weeks with the announcement that there will be no change to Forestry under the new CAP agreement.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has confirmed that forestry continues to be eligible for SPS payments following CAP reform agreement. This means that if a person decides to plant their land they stand to gain Forestry Premiums average at €200 per acre on their planted land per year for 20yrs.

This payment is income tax free. For some farmers that are still in REPS they can retain their entitlements on the planted area under the FEPS Scheme. With the availability of Forestry grants that cover the cost of all works that are required to plant your land (Fencing, mounding, trees etc) planting Forestry is a very attractive option.
