Colin Kerrigan, a Private in the Irish Army based in The Curragh, made his fiancée Linda’s day by telling her that he had won an all-expenses-paid wedding for them at the prestigious K Club after entering a competition run by RTÉ Radio 1’s The Mooney Show and the RTÉ Guide.

The couple live in Edenderry, Co. Offaly with their four-month-old daughter, Milly. They are currently living with Linda’s parents while they save for their wedding and to buy their own home.

On Friday last, Mooney reporter Brenda Donohue paid a visit to Colin at the Curragh Army Barracks to let him know that his heartfelt entry had clinched the competition for him before the pair set off to Edenderry to surprise bride-to-be Linda with the news.

In his winning entry, Colin told The Mooney Show that he knew Linda was special from the moment he met her in 2008, just after he returned from deployment in Chad.

They got engaged in December 2010, just before the birth of their first child, Bobby. Tragically, Bobby passed away due to a serious heart defect in December 2010, when he was just three days old.

Colin told The Mooney Show in his entry:

“The joy of having Bobby in our lives for just those three short days and the utter devastation of losing him changed our lives forever but we grew strong for each other through those terrible days and nights that followed.

“We decided we would try and raise some money in Bobby’s name for Crumlin Children’s Hospital and in April 2011 with the help of our families and friends we managed to raise just over €20,000. Our little man had touched many hearts.

“Linda Davy is the love of my life; I love her with my whole being. We were meant to be together and that is why Bobby was sent to us.

“We know we will get through whatever life throws at us but I would love to be able to give my girl the perfect day she deserves and I would give my whole world to be able to call Linda ‘my wife’.”

As part of their prize, the couple will receive a wedding package worth approximately €15,000 at the K Club in Kildare. The package includes:

* Five course wedding meal with wine for guests

* Room dressed and flower arrangements provided
