Offaly farmer ploughs for Ireland

John McBryde, a member of the South Offaly ploughing branch, recently traveled to Pembroke in Wales to represent his country at the World Vintage Ploughing Championships.

John McBryde, a member of the South Offaly ploughing branch, recently traveled to Pembroke in Wales to represent his country at the World Vintage Ploughing Championships.

Having just competed in the National Finals in Athy the same week, John made the trip to Wales to compete against the world’s top vintage ploughmen.

John qualified to compete in the event which was held on September 24 having finished second in the 2010 national finals in Athy.

Conditions for ploughing were less than ideal with heavy rain falling from early in the day, however John put on quiet an impressive display and finished in fifth place.

A group of nearly 20 members from South Offaly ploughing branch travelled to Pembroke to support John on the day and congratulate him on his achievement.
