Offaly IFA are holding a Sheep Meeting in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore on Thursday June 14 at 8.30pm.
Guest Speaker on the night is Kevin Kinsella Executive Secretary IFA Livestock & Sheep Committee. Kevin is well known in the county for his expertise on Markets and Lamb Price.
The focus at this meeting will be the downward pressure on lamb price at the moment and how the industry can react to maintain a decent price for Sheep Farmers. With costs of production at an all time high and feed, fuel and fertilizer increasing rapidly combined with very difficult weather conditions during the Spring. The Sheep Sector cannot take any further price cuts.
The Sheep Industry is sending out a very wrong signal at the moment if it hopes to achieve a 50% increase in lamb production by 2020. A lot of investment is taking place on farms at the moment and a lot of enthusiastic people are interested in entering the sector.
James Bennett Chairman of Offaly IFA Sheep Committee said that the downward spiral has knocked lambs prices by €25 per head. He welcomes that Bord Bia has agreed to bring forward their Lamb Promotion Campaign to Early June. All Sheep Farmers are very welcome to attend on Thursday Night in Tullamore.
