Funding is expected to be allocated shortly for a pedestrian crossing to be located in the vicinity of the junction to The Sycamores and Oaklands College in Edenderry according to Offaly COunty Councillor Noel Bourke.

Cllr Bourke commented, “I have been seeking this for some time and made a strong case for it to the officials concerned and I am glad that it has paid off.”

He added that the location concerned is a very busy place at all times but particularly at school starting and finishing times and with in excess of three hundred houses in The Sycamores there is an urgent need for it. He said that he sees at first hand virtually every day the volumes of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic in that area.

Cllr Bourke said that the exact location for the crossing will be decided by the roads engineers in Offaly County Council but there will be a strong emphasis on ensuring the safety of all pedestrians in that area.
