Cloud company Citrix has announced a programme in partnership with ICT Ireland Skillnet to empower Ireland’s next generation workforce via a free, 15 week course for computer science job seekers, with the real prospect of a job at the end of it.

The launch follows a successful pilot in 2012 that saw nine graduates move into full-time employment after completion of the programme.

The course is free to participants who may also retain their full social welfare benefits while attending provided they meet Department of Social Protection eligibility criteria.

Robert Young, a successful graduate from last year’s programme, says: “The combination of targeted training and hands-on work experience proved invaluable, ultimately providing me with the right skills and experience to secure a full-time opportunity with Citrix. Any computer science graduate or those from a cognate discipline keen to kick start their career should consider this course as an opportunity to hone their skills and have some fun along the way.”

Places are limited to 15. Interested graduates are asked to submit their CV detailing qualifications and experience to date to susan.kelly@ictirelandskillnet.org. The programme itself commences on the September 2nd, 2013.

Attending this course will allow for fast-track entry into jobs such as technical support engineers - usually within the Citrix partner ecosystem. Up to fifty per cent of participants will be offered a job at Citrix, but Citrix will endeavour to secure all participants employment within its broader base of partners.

The aim of the programme is to provide recent graduates with the necessary knowledge and experience to thrive in the workplace, via an intensive training course that will provide them with industry certification across emerging technologies such as virtualisation and cloud computing. Graduates participating have the opportunity to qualify for Microsoft, Citrix and other internationally-recognised certifications as well as gain practical work experience via a three week work placement at Citrix European technical support headquarters in Dublin.
