TULLAMORE Credit Union recently celebrated another important milestone in its very successful history. The 65,000th member account was opened recently.

An unsuspecting Eddie & Catherine Stapleton of Coologue Estate Daingean were surprised with a lodgement of €100 to their brand new account.

Eilish Horan, Credit Union Operations Manager, commented, “We are very excited about our 65,000th account and we welcome Eddie & Catherine to the credit union. We hope they have many happy years doing business with us. To those Tullamore residents who started up this credit union in 1963, reaching the 65,000th account would have been unimaginable. We asked our first member Joe Kenny to be here to celebrate this with us. It’s thanks to him and people like him that our community has access to a successful credit union where people can come in and get all their business done in a professional yet warm and friendly manner. Roll on the 70,000th account!

2013 will mark the 50th birthday of Tullamore Credit Union. From humble beginnings in small premises on High Street, Tullamore Credit Union has grown in both membership and assets over the years and now stands as the second biggest public credit union in Ireland.

Recent figures published in the Credit Union’s Cu Mail newsletter show that Tullamore Credit Union is one of the safest and strongest credit unions in the country with reserves well above the statutory requirements and assets in excess of €200 million.
