January 2011 saw the launch of Series 3 of the successful TG4 programme Feirm Factor which is sponsored by Land Rover Ireland.
The groundbreaking series took 12 farmers from across the country and challenged their farming skills, business acumen and physical and mental endurance. The aim was to find Ireland’s premier farmer.
Produced for TG4 by Good Company Productions, the series required the contestants to prove their worth as farmers through a variety of tasks and challenges. After nine tough weeks of silage, sweat and tears, twelve intrepid farmers were whittled down to three.
Judges Alan Dukes (Economist and Former leader of Fine Gael), Seán O’Lionáird (One of Ireland’s top Dairy Farmers and General Farming Expert) and Co-Judge and Presenter Maura Derrane (RTÉ’s Four Live) made their final deliberation at Charleville Castle Tullamore, before announcing Gavin Satchwell as the Feirm Factor Champion 2011 and winner of a Land Rover Discovery 4.
“Gavin was a hardworking and very deserving winner of Feirm Factor. His determination and positive attitude proved he had what it takes to be crowned Feirm Factor Champion.” – Maura Derrane, Feirm Factor Judge and Presenter.
25 year old Gavin Satchwell from Maynooth, Co. Kildare has worked on his family farm all his life. He also manages his own farm in Athboy with 212 acres and 50 suckler cows.
Speaking at Spirit Motor Group in Sandyford, Dublin, where he was presented with his new Land Rover Discovery 4, Gavin said: “I had a fantastic experience on Feirm Factor and I’m so glad I got involved. I met some great people and learned a lot along the way. Now I can’t wait to drive my new Land Rover back to the farm and put it to work!”
