TULLAMORE Town Cllr Molly Buckley has called on the council to take into account the difficulties business people are experiencing when calculating the amount to be collected in rates.

“This is a national issue. One premises might pay €3,000 while next door might only be paying €2,000. I would ask the national valuation office to look at how valuations are being done. They could also look at collecting it on a monthly basis or by standing order,” she said.

“It’s become a huge issue for businesses” she said.

Cllr Tommy McKeigue said the motion should be modified and circulated to all town councils in the country.
