On Saturday October 27, Ballycumber Amateur Drama Group hosted a one day workshop with the esteemed actress and director Anne Mekitarian.

Anne is the director of the Drama League of Ireland Summer School programme and was fresh from directing “Calendar Girls” in The Moat Theatre, Naas.

This drama workshop was made possible by a much appreciated grant from Offaly Arts Council and was held in Ballycumber Community Centre. Ballycumber Amateur Drama Group are extremely grateful for the use of the Community Centre for the day and to all members who were involved in obtaining the grant and organising the event itself.

Opening with ice-breakers, the morning session focused on voice training, movement and interpretation of texts.

Character development was the main focus of the afternoon and the activities involved brief sketches and brief introduction to method acting and Stanislavski’s theory.

It was both a challenging and enjoyable day and it is widely agreed that all participants went home feeling very enthusiastic about applying new ideas and techniques to their characters in this years production of Bernard Farrells “Canaries” which will be staged in Ballycumber Community Centre on 2nd and 3rd February and in Tuar Ard, Moate from 6th - 9th February .
