A SHORT film, funded by a Film Offaly bursary, is being shot on location around Tullamore this week.

Toy Soldiers began its week-long shoot in the playground of Kearney Park last Monday. This was an opportunity for the media and members of Film Offaly to meet the crew and cast.

Interestingly the main role was cast locally following a nationwide search. Eighteen year old Daragh O’Toole won the coveted role and was on location this week.

Last Monday the Chairperson of Film Offaly Cllr Molly Buckley, Offaly Arts Officer Sinead O’Reilly and Film Offaly member Annmarie Kelly of Midlands 103fm all visited the set to chat with the cast and crew.

There to meet them was the film’s director Mike Hayes and its writer Matt Roche. Among the locations which will be used in the film are Kearney Park, O’Connor Park, Thornsberry Estate, Eiscir Meadows, the Western Relief Road, Davitt Street, Collins Lane, Scally’s Centra, the graveyard, Angelo’s Chipper on High Street and Arden Road and also Cluain Fia in Clara.

Tullamore Town Council and the Gardai were actively involved in the production assisting with traffic management.
