TV Presenters, Anna Daly and Lisa Cannon have helped launch one of Ireland’s most fashion-forward fundraisers, Down Syndrome Centre’s Buy My Dress campaign, supported by Kellogg’s Special K. The Down Syndrome Centre hopes to raise €120,000 this year through the fundraiser, which will take place at various locations around the country on Saturday May 26.
Now in its fourth year, Buy My Dress invites women of all ages, shapes & sizes to dig out a lonely dress from their wardrobe, that is in good condition and donate to them to the one day, pop-up sales taking place around the country in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre.
This year, along with continuing to fund an existing Down Syndrome Liaison Nurse – who provides invaluable advice, support and guidance to parents whose newborn has just been diagnosed with Down Syndrome, the charity will be opening its doors to a new centre. The centre will provide much needed facilities and services necessary in the development of children born with Down Syndrome.
Over the past four years, Buy My Dress has been such a phenomenal success, receiving fantastic support from Irish women and celebrities. This year a selection of high-calibre dresses have been donated by both international and Irish celebrities including Pixie Lott, Imelda May, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Amy Huberman, Laura Whitmore, Nina DiVito and Glenda Gilson.
With the help of teams of volunteers who will organise each county event, the charity hopes to sell in excess of 10,000 dresses and is calling on women in workplaces and clubs nationwide to donate a dress over coming weeks. Dresses can be donated at drop-off points which have been set up in selected Unislim classes, Heaton’s stores (until May 19) and Xtra Vision stores (until May 14).
Speaking at the launch, Sharon Dagg, CEO of Down Syndrome Centre said; “The charity is currently entering a new and exciting phase. We are actively working towards the opening of our new centre, due to open its doors this summer, which will provide a variety of services, seminars, workshops and networking opportunities. Running the centre will require a huge influx in funds and therefore we really do appreciate the generous sponsorship from Kellogg’s Special K and the tremendous support from our volunteers around the country, who give so much time and energy into making this event the success it has become”.
Buy My Dress events will take place around the country from 11.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday May 26. Visit www.buymydress.ie to find the event closest to you.
