A local songwriter has secured her place in the final of the 25th Glinsk Song Contest.

Karen Burke from Tullamore has had her song Paper Airplanes chosen as a finalist in the contest which takes place in Galway on July 1.

The song is one of 13 chosen from entries submitted both from the length and breadth of Ireland and also internationally. Karen has previously been a finalist in Glinsk in 2006 and 2007 and is really looking forward to making a third trip to the well established contest which has seen names such as Charlie McGettigan and Una Healy of the Saturdays as winners in previous years.

Karen has been writing songs for years. The song was inspired by her children Olivia and Lucas and it explains the joys and frustrations of a child trying to fly a Paper Airplane. As a parent you have to let your child spread their wings in the world with the hope that life will carry them safely on their journey and this is the message of the song. Karen owns new local business Enchanted Stationery and loves to find some time for song writing. Her 13 year old daughter has recently been receiving lots of airplay for a song she wrote inspired by Madeleine McCann. The song Missing is part of a double track EP with Don Mescall and was recently released to raise awareness for www.missingpersons.ie. It has been a busy year in the house musically.

Paper Airplanes will be performed on the night by well known Clara native Noreen Rabbette who is a much sought after singer, especially in the Wedding circuit. She also graces The Gospel Choir with her fabulous voice.
