The virtual (digital) branch has many advantages over traditional audio books: The media cannot be damaged; there is no cost of staff checking or shelving materials. There is no need to move items from branch to branch, it is always available everywhere. Requests are supported so users can queue for in-demand items.

To get started you will need to install free software. To read eBooks, you will need Adobe Digital Editions. Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including iPod, iPad, SmartPhone and Sony Reader, and many others. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period.

To get downloading visit http://offaly.lib.overdrive.com or visit the library website www.offaly.ie/libraries If you are interested in having a demonstration of this new service, contact your local library for an appointment.

If you are not already a current library member, simply visit one of the library branches where the staff will be happy to register you.
