Dublin based 5 piece The Spooks of the Thirteenth Lock (named after a poem about a haunted lock on the Grand Canal) are part of a new breed of bands who are helping to drag Irish trad and folk music into the 21st Century. Their new album “The Brutal Here and Now” has received rave reviews in Hot Press, The Irish Independent and The Irish Times along with numerous other publications and cited as being one of the best Irish albums of the year. The Spooks play in the Irish folk tradition delving into psyc, progressive and post rock realms making the familiar sound innovative, the ancient new and the local sound universal. Stopping off In Joe Lee’s on Friday April 27 as part of a nationwide tour this FREE GIG is sure to be a highlight of spring concerts and a chance to catch this band before they start playing many of the Irish festivals this summer including Vantastival.
As part of Joe Lee’s Progressive Trad Festival Saturday (April 28) night will also feature DJ Tivo who mashes up genres like they were spuds!! Playing everything from Little Richard, The Dubliners, Country Blues and Big Beats. All events are Free Entry.
