Killeigh CCÉ perform at Launch of Fleadh ’63 Mullingar Celebrations

Last Saturday night Áras an Mhuilinn was filled with great young musical talents. Ceoltóirí Óga from Killeigh CCÉ in County Offaly and Craobh Phiarais Ui Ghréagáin from Monkstown, Dublin played lively sets along with a stellar performance by Mullingar CCÉ.

Last Saturday night Áras an Mhuilinn was filled with great young musical talents. Ceoltóirí Óga from Killeigh CCÉ in County Offaly and Craobh Phiarais Ui Ghréagáin from Monkstown, Dublin played lively sets along with a stellar performance by Mullingar CCÉ.

In the first half of the evening, music was provided by a visiting branch - Craobh Phiarais Uí Ghréagáin who meet twice weekly in An Cultúrlann, the Head Office of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann in Monkstown, Dublin.

Aodán Ó Muimneacháin Reachtaire at Áras a n Mhuilinn was a charming Fear an Tí, extending a céad míle fáilte to all present and introduced visiting musicians before picking up his accordion to join the local Mullingar branch in their set. The local branch will also perform at a Pre Parade Seisiún in Áras an Mhuilinn, Mount St., Mullingar on St Patrick’s Day from 1.45 – 2.45pm, All welcome.

A great night’s entertainment was rounded off by a superb performance from Killeigh CCÉ group under the stewardship of Carthage Keys from Co Offaly. This fine group of young musicians were warmly thanked for travelling to Mullingar and delighted the audeince with a colourful variety of tunes and songs.

Cathaoirleach of Áras an Mhuilinn, the Midlands Regional Comhaltas Centre, Camillus Glynn welcomed everyone and expressed delighted at the visit of the young musicians to the centre. The occasion also marked the launch of Fleadh ’63 Mullingar Celebrations which will take place on 12 – 14 April. Apologies from Westmeath County Council and Fáilte Ireland were noted and support for the upcoming Fleadh ’63 event from both was acknowledged. This is a Gathering project hosted by Áras an Mhuilinn. Over the weekend there will be a Local Exhibition of Fleadh ’63 Mememorabilia. On Friday 12 April there will be a Film show of “Fleadhanna Ceoil thourough the Years” film followed by an informal seisiún.

On Saturday 13th April there will be a Gaeilge for páistí morning workshop and afternoon discussion forum “Memories of Fleadh ‘63” with MC Kieran Hanrahan. A Reunion Concert of Westmeath All Ireland Fleadh winners presented by Westmeath County Board with MC Kieran Hanrahan will take place in Bloomfield House Hotel, Belvdere Mullingar. On Sunday there be an Afternoon Ceili followed by seisiún and dráma in Áras an Mhuilinn. Visitors from Great Britain will attend and play at seisiún throughout the weekend. All musicians and non-musicians are invited to come and enjoy what is hoped will be a weekend full of ceol and craic 12 – 14 April. More details on www.arasanmhulinn.ie 044 9330644.
