Wayne Brennan was one of three artists chosen to participate in ‘A Grand Experience’, a film documentary about the artistic response of three artists on a week-long trip on The Grand Canal in Offaly. The journey on-board the historic 68M barge from Shannon Harbour to Edenderry was captured on film and will screen later this autumn on RTE.

Wayne’s task during the week was to write a song capturing the essence of the journey through his musical talent. The final product of Wayne’s work is entitled ‘Roots in these lands’ and portrays his love for his home county and his country.

‘There is so much beauty and mystique at the heart of the country and I was honoured to be given the task of expressing my love for my homeland’ said Brennan.

The song ‘Roots in these lands’ which will be premiered on Midlands 103 during the week, recently won first prize at the prestigious Sean McCarthy Irish song contest which takes place annually in Listowel, attracting entrants from all over the country.

Wayne’s performance and song were given the highest of compliments from Irish musical legend Michael McConnell who wrote the timeless classic ‘Only our rivers run free’.

Frankie Gavin, contest judicator and world famous fiddle player also said ‘Wayne’s performance was amazing, artists such as Christy Moore would love to get their hands on this song’.

Hailing from Daingean, Wayne released his debut album ‘In my hands’ in 2009 and has since been enjoying widespread interest in his music both nationally and internationally. With this new single, his Irish roots are more prominent than ever before.

‘Roots in these lands’ is a finely crafted modern Irish song focusing on the beauty that lies at the heart of Ireland. This uplifting single is a great indication of what is to come from his highly anticipated second studio album.

Wayne has spent the last year traveling the world, but his love for his home county shines through in the beautiful lyrics of his new single. ‘Roots in these Lands’ is the type of song that will ignite pride in the people of Offaly for years to come.

The song’s release is highly anticipated and will be available on iTunes on August 17.
