ASLAN will perform on Friday, August 5 as part of Hugh Lynch’s 40th anniversary celebration on the outside stage at the street party.
The band, who took their name from the heroic lion in CS Lewis’s series of books chronicling the fictional land of Narnia, (Aslan is the Turkish for ‘Lion’), emerged from the working class areas of Finglas and Ballymun in Dublin’s Northside, in the mid 1980s. They released a demo single, ‘This Is’, in the Spring of 1986, which was a huge hit and became the longest ever play-listed single on Ireland’s pop radio station, RTÉ 2fm.
Cecelia Ahern could be about to give veteran Irish band Aslan their latest break break. The Finglas, group have revealed that they were “stunned” to be contacted by publishers Harper Collins this week to ask whether their client, Ms Ahern, could use lyrics from one of their songs in her next book, ‘The Time Of My Life’. After being given the go-ahead, Ms Ahern then contacted Aslan to thank them personally, and to promise that should the book be turned into a movie, she would do her utmost to get their song into the film.
Ryan Sheridan will headline the stage on the Saturday Night with Seamus Moore finishing the party in his own unique style on Sunday. Other acts due to perform on the stage over the weekend include The Whisht, Best Foot Forward, Macey South and Dave Peyton. All gigs are free of charge.
