TULLAMORE Gospel Choir are this week celebrating the news that they have been invited to take part in Mass on RTE 1 television on Sunday, June 19 next.

The live broadcast, which will be televised from the RTE Studios in Donnybrook, will feature a selection of songs which have been part of the repertoire of the Gospel Choir since its launch in 2003. It is also expected to feature some original gospel music which has been composed especially for the Choir by internationally-acclaimed singer/songwriter and Choir Musical Director, Brendan Keeley.

In fact, the televised Mass featuring Tullamore Gospel Choir is just one of two important engagements which they will undertake with RTE in the coming weeks. The Choir has also been invited to participate in a special Prayer and Reflection Service to be broadcase on RTE Radio 1 on Good Friday, April 22 next. A crew from RTE will travel to Tullamore tomorrow night (Thursday) to make a special recording of the Choir at 6pm in the Day Chapel of the Church of the Assumption.

Choir Director, Brendan Keeley said the double engagement with RTE is a “fitting reflection” of the hard work and commitment given by each and every member of Tullamore Gospel Choir. Weekly rehearsals take place in the Church of the Assumption on Wedneday nights, and the Choir participate in the Liturgy at the 1pm Mass in the Church on the second and fourth Sunday of each calendar month. They also undertake charity Concerts all around the country, with their next Concert taking place on Wednesday, April 27 next in Kilcormac. As this is the first local Concert which the Gospel Choir have undertaken in a number of years, it will provide a rare opportunity for local people to experience the uplifting and joyful music of the Choir. All proceeds from the sale of tickets for the Kilcormac Concert, which takes place in the Church of the Nativity with tickets priced at just 10 euro, go towards raising funds for Colaise Naomh Cormac Secondary School in the town.

On Sunday next, the Gospel Choir have organised a Gala Bingo Session at 3pm Sharp in the Tullamore Court Hotel to raise funds for the recording of their second album. All proceeds from the sale of the proposed album will go towards supporting various charities, as is the case with the first album recorded by the Choir in 2005, entitled “Faith, Friendship, Fun.”

The members of Tullamore Gospel Choir face an intensive rehearsal schedule in the coming weeks, and have many exciting events in the pipeline, but they are looking forward to the challenge.
