ST Colmcille’s Pipe Band, Tullamore scooped four prizes at the South of Ireland Championships in Cobh last Sunday.
It continues the band’s solid start to the season following their fourth place finish at the highly competitive Co Tyrone Championships in Dungannon last month.
Last weekend St Colmcille’s competed in the Grade 5 and Grade 5 maps contests, scooping first place overall in each as well as taking first place in drumming, seeing off competition from eight other bands. They also played up in Grade 4, claiming a respectable second place to New Ross & District from Co Wexford.
The band’s next competitive outing takes place in Newcastle on June 18 at the Co Down Championships when they hope to achieve their first outright victory north of the border as they build towards the All-Ireland, European and World Championships in July and August.
Band members who competed in Cobh last Sunday were: Joe Mooney (pipe major), John Leamy (pipe sergeant), Don Devine, Gary Mangan, Paul Mooney, Pat Nolan; Willie Currams (drum sergeant), Michael Middleton (drum corporal), Ross Cannon, John O’Gorman, Brandon Troy; Martin Donnellan, Susan Feery, Leo Middleton, Ollie Pyke.
