Volunteers sign up for Phoenix Festival

Over 100 people turned up to the Phoenix Open Night last Friday night, March 11 to get involved in this year’s Phoenix Arts Festival and enjoy an eclectic night of free entertainment.

Over 100 people turned up to the Phoenix Open Night last Friday night, March 11 to get involved in this year’s Phoenix Arts Festival and enjoy an eclectic night of free entertainment.

People from various backgrounds and interests were treated to a showcase of various local talent including live music, art and short films and given the platform to submit their ideas and events for the midlands largest community festival.

The MC on the night was local musician Damien Farrell who introduced a selection of top class musical talent including One-Up, Gavin Ghee, Della and the Dealer, Opus Coda, Eoin Martin, RaggamanBob and Damien himself entertaining the enthusiastic audience. Meanwhile the organising team were busy signing up volunteers from around the county who wish to help out during the festival event.

Stilts and Performers from StageCraft Ireland, along with Live art from David Heffernan and Kevin Connolly and short films kept the interest alive during set changes.

Thanks to Fergie’s Bar for supplying the venue and light refreshments on the night and to the Open Night organising team of Maura, John, Andrea, Deirdre and Siobhan.

Event applications have been received from all over the country and the festival committee are currently looking through all applications to be included in the festival programme which is proposed to take place in the Tullamore Town Park on May 7 and May 8, subject to Tullamore Town Council approval.

There is still an opportunity for people to get involved as the Phoenix Festival AGM takes place next Monday next March 21 in the Bridge House Hotel at 7pm followed by the festival’s regular planning meeting.
