“The situation is worsening as every day goes by, whether it be dog dirt, litter on the streets or illegal dumping on country roads. It is escalating all the time,” said Cllr Hogan.

She added that the council must take immediate action to clean up the areas and also ensure that deterrents in place to prevent people from littering are pursued in all instances.

“At the moment in Edenderry, it is impossible to walk two steps without almost walking in dog dirt and this cannot continue. Poop a scoops are available free of charge from Offaly County Council for any dog owners and can be obtained from the Environmental Department and I would urge all dog owners to obtain these,” said Cllr Hogan.

She said there are many community groups in Edenderry doing their best to keep Edenderry clean but it is not their responsibility and the council must take action.

“In addition the situation is worsening on country roads with constant illegal dumping in many places which is destroying the country side. I intend to bring these matters up at the March meeting of Offaly County Council requesting that the Council take immediate action,” concluded Cllr Hogan.
