The biggest chunk of this will be spent on the Tullamore By-Pass. €2.855m will be spent on continuing the road to the N6.
€300,000 will be spent on the Tullamore to Kilbeggan link road, while €240,000 will be spent on the Scrub Cross in Killeigh.

€202,000 will be spent on road improvements for Tubber, €30,000 on pedestrian improvements in Kilcruttin, while €5,000 will be spent on the Arden road.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen said works will be also be carried out at Blackbull Junction and Drumakeenan. "Over the past decade Fianna Fáil in Government has prioritised the improvement of our national roads network. This massive investment has helped to support our economic development and more and more significant projects are being delivered on time and under budget. This year's investment, nationally and here in County Offaly will continue this good work," said Mr Cowen.

Cllr Sinead Dooley in welcoming the allocation said Tullamore has benefited greatly by the completion ahead of schedule of the by-pass which opened last October and with the allocation of funding for the Tullamore Area, a number of improvements and safety measures, which have been prioritized by the Council can now be put in place.

In addition, €773,000 is allocated for pavement and Minor works in the county and in total €813,400 has been allocated for the maintenance of our National Primary and Secondary Roads.

Speaking about the €1.115 billion investment for national roads, Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey, said: ''The significant expansion and development of the roads networks has benefited everyone in the state. It has been a major factor in underpinning the sustained programme of national economic recovery.

"It is a proud boast that roads building projects are efficient, on budget, on time and often ahead of their completion dates. Today's investment builds on the massive roads investment by this Government over a decade and more.''
