Audi do it again - top of the premium brands

Audi Ireland’s total sales of 3,400 units for 2011 cemented its position as the country’s most popular premium brand for the third consecutive year. This figure represents a significant year-on-year increase of 23%.

Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Ireland said they were thrilled to have finished 2011 as the best selling premium car brand in the market place.

“We believe that especially at these times, savvy Irish customers recognise the ideal mix of benchmark premium products, leading efficiency, and an unrivalled value and quality proposition that only Audi can provide,” Mr Doyle added.

Although a challenging year lies ahead for the industry, early order intake for Audi is very strong, and they are looking forward to increasing the momentum throughout 2012 with the continuation of company’s aggressive product plan.

“We are already taking strong orders for the much-anticipated new Audi A4 model due in early February,” Mr Doyle continued. “We believe this new model will further extend its lead as the market-leading premium sedan in Ireland.

“In early March, the successful new A1 3-door will be joined by the A1 Sportback 5-door to add further impetus to this model. In 2012, we will also continue the roll out of our €80 million investment into Ireland, and new dealer network facilities, with a view to sustained long term growth and benchmark industry customer care.”

Worldwide, Audi AG sold around 1,302,650 cars in 2011, beating its previous sales record from one year earlier by more than 210,200 units. The brand’s strong growth spanned all regions of the world with China becoming Audi’s biggest single market for the first time ever.

In Europe, the Ingolstadt-based brand increased its unit sales by 12.1% to around 726,300 cars and it also achieved a growth rate well into double figures in the US. Audi ended the past year with a new sales record in more than 50 markets.

The A8 and A6 models have been instrumental in driving Audi’s growth. Even before the appearance of the new-generation A6 in China, the sedan model’s biggest market, global sales of this car rose by 12.2% to around 229,200 vehicles.

The new A6 sedan appeared in its first markets in March, with the Avant, which is especially popular in Europe, following only in the autumn. Audi also increased its presence in the full-size category with the Q7, with sales up 21.4% on the previous year. Launched at the start of 2010, the brand’s flagship A8 model actually doubled its volume (+101%).
