BALLYCUMBER Amateur Drama Group staged ‘Out of Order’ on Saturday & Sunday night in Ballycumber Hall.

This years production is a play by Ray Cooney, thought to be one of his most funny plays. It is set in Suite 648 of the plush Westminster Hotel, London and was directed by Brendan Hanamy.

Conservative government MP Richard Willey, is attempting to have an affair with one of the secretaries of the leader of the Opposition.

Desperately trying to get out of a potentially head-line making situation, Richard calls for his private Secretary, George.

However, with a conniving waiter, a suspicious hotel manager, an angry wife, a furious husband, a bungling secretary, a nurse and a dead body, nothing is going to go as planned!

The ensuing action is hilarious with the audience on both nights thoroughly enjoying the antics of Chris Murphy as Richard Willy and Mike Hiney as George Pidgen as they interact with wives, secretaries, a maid and a nurse, in various state of undress!

They also encounter an angry husband, a surprise body and see to conceal all this from the manager of the hotel!

The cast are to be congratulated on their performances: Chris Murphy as Richard Willey, Michael J Hiney as George Pigden, Brendan Robbins as the waiter, Derek Claffey as the manager, Charlotte Molloy as the maid, Karen O Meara as Jane Worthington, Mark Molloy as Ronnie Worthington, Clare Ward as Pamela Willey, Frances Doyle as Gladys Foster and Diarmuid Donoghue as Jack Baker.

Ballycumber Drama Group have been busy renovating the stage in the hall over the past few months, with the stage area cleaned and repainted.

With the aid of a grant from Offaly Arts Council they have also installed a new lighting bar which will be used for future productions in the hall.

‘Out of Order’ will be performed in Tuar Ard, Moate, for four nights this week from Wednesday to Saturday, February 15 to 18.

Proceeds from the performance on Wednesday night will go towards ‘Meals to the Door’ an initiative that provides meals to the elderly and sick in the Ballycumber area. Admission is €10 and booking is advisable through Tuar Ard on 09064 82042.

See next week’s Offaly Express (February 22) for extensive photographic coverage from the production
