Second prize for St Colmcille’s Pipe Band

ST Colmcille’s Pipe Band continued their good start to the season by claiming second prize at the Mid-Ulster Pipe Band Championships in Cookstown, county Tyrone recently.

It’s their second successive time to feature in the prize list having also taken second at the Borough of Ards Championships in Newtownards last month.

The band is quickly establishing itself in Grade 4A in their first season playing at that level since 1993 having been upgraded after a hugely successful run of results in 2011.

Tullamore were edged out of first place by Tullylagan from County Tyrone, with Syerla, Bready Ulster Scots and Closkelt completing the prize list after St Colmcille’s, with nine bands competing in the grade on the day.

The band’s next competitive outing comes at the Heart of Down Championships on Saturday week, June 23, as preparations intensify for the All-Ireland Championships in Ballina, County Mayo on July 7.
