Day of action planned by arts campaigners

THE National Campaign for the Arts (NCFA) is organising a series of free workshops in Dublin, Galway and Cork on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 23, 24 and 25 respectively, to brief arts workers on the Campaign's daring new initiative, the National Day of Action.

The National Day of Action, which is due to happen in early September prior to the Dil resuming for the Autumn and in advance of the now nationwide Culture Night event, is a collective initiative which involves all art forms across the counties of Ireland.

Last September some of Ireland’s most recognizable and respected artists came out to launch a campaign which highlighted the vital contribution the arts makes to Ireland’s local economy, global reputation and national sense of self. This September, the NCFA is calling on arts workers in every constituency throughout the country to meet their local TDs on the same day to further underline the message that cutting funding and jobs in the arts will severely effect the country’s overall drive towards economic recovery.

The free workshops are aimed at galvanizing arts workers into becoming involved in the Campaign’s National Day of Action and to help organise a series of cultural ‘events’ due to take place on the day.
