Australian woman searches for Daingean relatives

AN Australian woman is trying to trace her roots in Daingean.

Cheryl Hobson wants to get in contact with any friends or relatives of Daniel Donoghue and Ellen Kelly who lived in the then Phillipstown in the early 1900’s.

“They had at least two sons, Michael (my grandfather) and Patrick who moved to Australia about 1889. I believe they returned to Ireland on a visit with young Vince, Michael’s son, after 1912 and Patrick subsequently remained while the others returned to Australia,” said Ms Hobson.

She also would like to locate any members of the Grace family who lived on a farm in Little Island in 1951. “I believe they are close relatives of Michael and Patrick and had a daughter named Bridie. Bridie wrote to Vince to inform him of the death of Aunt Siss and Uncle Dan Donoghue. She had four sisters and five brothers, Mollie, Peggie, Rosie and Kittie, John, George, Pat, Joseph and Michael,” said Ms Hobson.

Anyone who can help her in her search is asked to contact Ms Hobson via email on midget@bigpond.com or by writing to her at 23 Barbeler Street, Currajong, Townsville 4812, Australia.
