Another title for St Mary’s as singers claim Undercover crown on Midlands 103

ST MARY’S school Edenderry continued their winning streak last week when four pupils won a recording session at the world famous Grouse Lodge Studios in Westmeath.

Following in the footsteps of luminaries such as Michael Jackson, REM and Snow Patrol the St Mary’s quartet defeated dozens of other Midlands schools to become on-air finalists in the Undercover competition on Midlands 103.

The very popular competition on Carl James’ Drivetime show was adjudicated by rock journalist Stuart Clark from Hotpress maagzine, in which the students will also feature shortly. “I agonised over picking a winner,” explained Stuart. “It was a very difficult task given the incredible talent of all the entires in particular from St Mary’s CBS Portlaoise, Mountrath Community School and Clara Community School.”

Entries featured cover versions of the most popular songs in music with David Guetta’s Titanium coming out on top as performed by Ashling Doyle, Laura Moore, Mary McNamee and Sean Keyes from St Mary’s Edenderry, under the tutelage of teacher Colette Brady.

Their version was praised highly by Stuart for its original and unique take on this very popular song.

Undercover will return next year to showcase all the great talent in the midlands, said presenter Carl James. “Well done to all.”
