Tullamore Church leads RTE’s Service on Sunday
THIS week’s (February 26) Service on Sunday will be led by members of Tullamore Presbyterian Church who, through readings, songs and prayers will be reflecting on Jesus stilling the storm and applying the meaning of this two thousand year old Biblical story to today’s Ireland.
The service was recorded two weeks ago in the Donnybrook studios in Dublin. Pre-recording has become the norm now for Protestant services due to very strict budget cuts in RTE.
Rev William Hayes, Minister of Tullamore Presbyterian Church said it was a great opportunity for a group from the congregation together with folks from their sister church Mountmellick Presbyterian to record a service of worship.
“It’s a strange atmosphere, although it looks as though there is plenty of space when you see the studio services on television there is actually only a very small area.
“I think the biggest challenge was to remember that this was a time of worship and hopefully something of that worshipful atmosphere will come across when broadcast,” explained Rev Hayes.
The Presbyterian Church in Tullamore is going through something of a renaissance at present with the number of Sunday worshippers having risen to its highest level in decades.
“It’s very encouraging,” says Rev Hayes, “but we do still have to keep in mind that we are still one of the smallest Presbyterian Churches on the island of Ireland. We are currently focussing on trying to build a community of people who put their faith into practice by looking out for each other and taking care of those around them.”
