Eurovision Link Niamh Kavanagh, daughter of Noel and Joan Kavanagh, The Island, was one of the backers to Niamh Kavanagh who was chosen to represent Ireland in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. Niamh played the long Silver Whistle

The two Niamhs are cousins of one another. Congratulations and well done Niamh. Congratulations also to Mary Cantwell who spun the wheel on Winning Streak on Saturday last and won over €78,000.

Recognising and Treating Behavioural Problems

The Parents Association of St Colman's School and Ballinamere NS are co-hosting a talk on the subject of Recognising and Treating Behavioural Problems on Wednesday, March 10, in the Millennium Room in the Bridge House Hotel at 7.30pm. Cover charge is €5. Tea and coffee provided. All welcome.

Mucklagh Community Development

Mucklagh Community Development are in the process of doing a Needs Analysis of Mucklagh and the surrounding areas. They will be calling to all houses in the area and ask you for your cooperation in filling out a questionnaire.

A list of names and the areas will be published beforehand. We would be grateful for your cooperation. Next meeting, Wednesday, March 10 at 7.30 in Mucklagh GAA.

Mucklagh Community Alert

Mucklagh Community Alert have just purchased new signs for Mucklagh and the surrounding areas. They will be erected as soon as planning permission is passed.

Shamrocks Ladies Football

Shamrocks ladies football are having a quiz night in Kelly's of Mucklagh on Friday, March 26 at 9pm. Tables of four. Your support is appreciated.

Junior Ladies Training commences this Wednesday night in the Tullamore Harriers at 8 o'clock. All members are asked to attend and we will welcome new members also. Just come on the night or contact Anne for more details on 086 3030203.

Good Friday Card Drive

The usual Card Drive will be held in Rahan Hall on Good Friday again this year. Cards for this event should be available soon and proceeds will go to parish funds.

Rahan Community Market

Rahan Community Market is on every Saturday morning in Rahan Hall. Please support your local growers of potatoes, veg and also some lovely home baking and enjoy a breakfast sandwich as well.

Rahan Community Gym

Rahan Community Gym is in full swing. Membership for three months is only €50 and all who are over 16 are covered by insurance.

Women's Group

Mucklagh Women's Group meet every Tuesday night at 7.30 until 9.30 in Childs play Pre-School, Brocca Road. March is Relaxation Techniques by Carmel Bracken. All welcome. For information on up coming events call Freda on 087 2899899.

Parent and Toddler Group

Mucklagh Parent and Toddler group meet every Tuesday morning at 10.30am in Mucklagh GAA until 12.30pm.

Shamrocks GAA

The numbers drawn in the lotto were 2, 4, 17 and 25. There were two lucky match three winners – Martin Hand & Noel Cleary and they will receive n200 each. Next week's draw will be held in Kelly's Roadhouse for a jackpot of n4,200.

The Colin Dunne Golf Classic will be held on Friday & Saturday, April 2 & 3 at Esker Hills Golf Club. The format is a Three Ball Scramble costing n180 per team including meal. The Dunne Family is kindly donating a cup in memory of Colin, our esteemed playing member who died on March 1, 2009 while competing in the Barcelona Marathon. The proceeds of the event will be shared equally with Colin's Charity CRY a body to set up to research sudden death in young sports people. All support will be gratefully appreciated. Tickets for the club's main fundraiser are currently on sale and can be had from individuals all over the parish as well as the usual outlets and committee members. Tickets costing anything from n1 to n21 are up for grabs with only the buyer knowing the actual cost of his/her ticket. This is a novel fundraiser and there are great prizes with n1,500 first prize and n1,000 second prize.

Shamrocks junior hurlers played Belmont on Saturday last in the first round of the league and were defeated 3-12 to 2-18. Team: A O'Connell; D Smyth, R Kearney, L Mollen; A Kidney, D Buckley, D Heffernan; I Mc Dermott, B Kelly; P Hannon, K Grennan, J Bryant; A Flaherty, T Darcy. Sub used: C Buckley.

On Sunday morning in Mucklagh the senior hurlers got their 2010 campaign off to a winning start when they defeated Lusmagh on a score-line of 0-9 to 0-8. Team: S Molloy; D Conroy, J Conway, R Kearney; C Clavin, K Mollen, E Comerford; M Conroy, D Minnock; B Kelly, K Cummins, K Grennan; D Condron, P Hannon, P Kelly. Subs used: C Buckley, T Darcy and A Kidney

Well done to the members who completed a gruelling marathon course in Barcelona at the weekend and in the process raised some funds for defibrillators for Shamrocks area. Sponsorship cards are still going around if you have not yet supported this very worthwhile cause.

U-12 hurling training will resume this Saturday evening from 5 to 6pm in Rahan GAA field.
