THE recently formed ‘Phoenix Ensemble’ was very busy spreading a little festive cheer in December by playing in a number of locations around Tullamore to raise money for charity.

One of the founding members, Colin Smyth stated, “As a newly formed Ensemble, a number of our members expressed the wish to raise funds for a charity over Christmas.

“The Offaly Alzheimer Association seemed a worthy cause with so many people who have friends or family who have been touched in some way by the disease.

“We were absolutely amazed by the generosity of the people of Offaly in a time of deep recession. Raising €847 exceeded all our expectations and we would like to say a big thank you from all of us.”

Members of the Ensemble would also like to extend their thanks to Mary Rooney, Manager of the old Dunnes Stores, John Cusack, Manager of the Bridge Centre and Emmet Lynch, Proprietor of Lynchs’ pub and his Manager Pat Doyle for their cooperation and interest.

They would also like to extend their thanks to Mary Gavin who assisted in collecting.
