Drama

Clonbullogue Drama group presented their three act drama "The Playboy of the Western World" in Clonbullogue Hall on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday April 21, 22 and 23 being well received by the patrons. Regarded as a great Irish classic, it is also a play with an intense dialogue, however the producer James Lawlor succeeded admirably with his interpretation of this drama and brought a very thorough production to the stage. The cast drawn from the local community were cast as follows; Christy Mahon the playboy was very capably performed by Andrew Feeney, playing the part of Pegeen Mike Flaherty with great effect was Colette Jessop, while the role of the Widow Quinn was a true and very creditable performance by Rita Judge. Local publican Richie Conlon in the role of the old man Mahon had a truly wonderful performance in this difficult part and the "publican in the western world" was MP Kearney, his loyal local "customers" were Philly Cullen and Jimmy Farrell played by John Horan and Fergus Flynn. The young girls aiming for the attentions of the playboy were Sara Tansey, Honor Blake, Susan Brady and Nelly all ably played by Sinead Conlon, Marita O'Brien, Kathleen Feeney and Marie Daly. The peasant men were Ciaran Kearney and Martin Feeney. The backstage team included Tom Lawlor, Paul Hynan and James Donegan who constructed the stage, the design of which was the work of Jim Lawlor. Lighting was by Willie Melia and the MC was Maura Allen. The drama group extend their sincere thanks to all who contributed to the success of the production and especially to the ladies who provided the teas and refreshments for the duration of the production.
