RETAIL THERAPY The much awaited retail therapy evening takes place this Saturday ( June 26). The sale includes wedding, bridesmaids, graduation and other formal dresses. It commences at 7.30pm in the Resource Centre with all funds raised going towards the swimming pool development.

NEW SHOP

Best of luck to all involved at Pat and Jenny's antiques which has recently open at The Square in Clara. The large figurine of a bearded man which is placed outside the shop during business hours has been a great talking point in the town centre.

OUT OF WORK

Anyone who may have recently lost their job is reminded of the services available at Clara Family Resource Centre. The centre is located in the parochial hall, opposite the maxol filling station and may be in a position to assist unemployed persons find appropriate training courses. The centre is open 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

BENEFIT NIGHT

A benefit night for Liam Buckley will take place in Clara sports centre on July 2. Admission is n5. Three-year-old Liam is suffering from a serious illness which is placing a large financial burden on his family. Music on the night is by local artists.

BBQ

The seventh annual Mid-Summers Madness charity BBQ will take place in Kilmucklin on this Saturday night, June 26. The event has been one of the highlights of the annual social calendar for the past six years. Funds raised go towards the Belarus orphanage appeal. Full bar facilities are available on the night as well a generous helpings of food. Admission is by ticket only. Over 18's only with ID required. Musicians include Celtic Swallowbeaters, Joe Rabbette and JR Bigband with two DJ's also in action on the night.

LOCAL DEATH

The death occurred during the past week of Lily Cartwright, The Green, Clara. Nee Slammon, Lily spent much of her life in England before retiring to Clara with her late husband Leslie in the past few years.

RELIC

The Relic of St. Maria Goretti will visit St Brigids parish centre on July 1.

MOBILE CINEMA

The Cinemobile mobile cinema will visit Clara later this week. The large lorry which includes a full cinema in the trailer section will be in Clara swimming pool car park on Friday, June 25. Four films will be shown on the day, including 2 showings of "his and Hers" a love story documentary which features Clara women Mary Rock and Kathleen Holmes. See posters locally for full details.

Happy 50th birthday to Elsie Gannon. Birthday wishes also to Christy Rickard and Jason Fagan

OPEN DAY

Tots to Teens, the community crche and day care facility will host and open day this weekend. The centre at Kilbride gardens will be open to the public on Saturday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. The open day will feature the work of the young boys and girls, face-painting and music. Staff will also be on hand to discuss facilities available.

FOOTBALL WIN

Well done to Clara under 12 girls who beat Rhode in the U-12 final last Saturday.

COFFEE MORNING

A coffee morning in aid of Myloma takes place in Jels Kitchen, River street on this Friday, June 25 at 11am.

CHURCH CLEANERS

Church cleaners are required on Tuesday evening from 7pm to 8pm. All are welcome.

CLARA COMMUNITY AND FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE

Clara Tots 2 Teens are celebrating their 2nd Birthday this June and to celebrate they will be having a super summer fun day on Saturday, June 26 from 2pm - 3 pm in their facility in Kilbride Gardens.

There will be Cinemobile screenings of 'His & Hers', the film based in the midlands featuring an all female cast, including some Clara women, on Friday, June 25 at 6pm and 8pm in the swimming pool car park.

Tidy Towns Environmental Group AGM will take place in the Family Resource Centre on Monday, July 12 at 8pm sharp.

As part of Myeloma Awareness there will be a coffee morning in Jel's Kitchen on Friday, June 25 from 11am. For further information please check www.mymyeloma.ie

Are you recently unemployed? What can the resource centre do for you to help you up-skill or provide access to training and education. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Call into the Centre to discuss your ideas between 9am-4pm.

Computer Classes: If you are interested in completing a computer course in the Resource Centre, please contact us to leave your name and if we have enough interest we will be running more computer courses in the future.

Clara Christmas Lights Committee

Clara Christmas Lights Committee would like to thank everyone who supported the recent fundraisers. To the Clara Mimics, a big thanks for all their hard work and kind donation following the show in April. A special word of thanks to all the musicians and singers who gave us a great night of entertainment at the concert in Docs on May 22. Thanks to June Carly of Midlands Radio 3 and her sister Laura who helped us out on the night. Among the audience was An Taoiseach Brian Cowen.

The committee hope you will continue to support their efforts to light up Clara this Christmas by supporting future fundraising efforts such as sponsored Mens Leg Waxing coming up soon. And also a children's disco & sponsored Walk and more.

Clara GAA Club

Lotto: There was no winner of the weekly club lotto jackpot. The winning numbers were 1, 5, 7, 20. There were five match three winners who will each receive n30. Maureen Healion, Catherine Monaghan, Kyla Cullen, Jemma Bracken-Mc Guinness and Ann McGuinness. Next weeks lotto takes place in Dolan's and the Jackpot is n2750. Thanks to all who support our lotto and thanks to all our ticket sellers.

Ladies Football: Congratulations to the girls in the Clara U-12 football team on winning the sheild final against Rhode last Saturday in Tubber. It was a close contest in the end, with Rhode leading by four points at half time. The Clara girls dug deep and a superbly taken goal in the last minute sealed the victory for Clara. A special thanks to the Mill House who laid on refreshments for the panel after the game. U-6/8/10 Football: Clara under 6's, 8's and 10's played hosts to Ballinamere/Durrow on Wednesday, June 16. Clara lead all games from start to finish and proved that their commitment to training on Saturday mornings really paid off. Thanks to Ballinamere/Durrow who travelled to Clara and also not to forget our players. Well done and keep it up.

Offaly teams: Best of luck to both Offaly senior teams this weekend when the Hurlers take on Galway in the replay of the leinster Semi-final and the footballers play Clare in the All-Ireland Qualifiers.
